Up your cultural capital this summer!

Up your cultural capital this summer!

When you think about it, The Savoy, really is in epicentre of all things cultural in London.  We look across the Thames to the South Bank, have the galleries of Somerset House to the east and the National Gallery to the West, while The Royal Opera House is a quick stroll through Covent Garden.

The South Bank is a bit of a cultural mecca and caters for all tastes.  If you are coming with the family there are always special summer activities going on alongside the permanent attractions of the London Eye, The London Aquarium and so forth.  The outdoor fountains installation Disappearing Rooms will provide watery entertainment for younger children and House of Vans are laying on a skate school on Saturday mornings for the cool kids.  By way of contrast, adults can enjoy Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing at the National Theatre, or treat themselves to street food and cocktails at whilst soaking up the buzzing riverside atmosphere.

Covent Garden is thriving nowadays; stylish boutiques rub shoulders with chic places to eat and you could easily spend a whole day there.  Throughout the summer there are lots of different ‘takeovers’ of the Piazza – of the more alcoholic variety for adults, but the kids (and grown-ups too) will love the Ice Cream Festival from 19 August to 4 September.  What better way to spend the summer than becoming a gelato aficionado!

Somerset House has a packed schedule this summer from the calm to the uber cool.  You could enjoy the serenity and masterpieces of The Courtauld, with Britain’s best collection of impressionist art, or plan your visit for August and the eclectic ‘This Bright Land’ festival.  A boldly coloured ferris wheel will appear in the central courtyard and on Sundays there are children’s activities galore, but adults can release their inner child at live music nights on Fridays or by donning their glad rags to join Saturday evening Vogueing balls!

Whatever you pick from the diverse entertainment scene in London, The Savoy is an oasis of indulgence right in the heart of things; the perfect place to return to after busy day or exciting evening living it up in this marvellous city.
